Warning: this is a very disturbing story.
The Storage Room
Begins on page 75 from The Secrets of the Unwritten Book. This is a continuation of the first part about the fan incident. http://nonon-centsnanna.com/nanna/nanna.php/abuse/first-segment-of-the-secrets
Anna finds herself at Flossie's.
Her little bandaged fingers hurt.
She did not know that the bandages were not supposed to be soaked with wet blood.
She knows that she dare not complain. She knows what will happen to her if she does, but, Anna refuses to let the consequences enter her mind. (She will be beat with a switch from a sticker bush.)
Flossie takes the suit case in one hand and shoves Anna with the other hand.
"You'd better behave yourself for me, young lady. Children should be seen and not heard."
Anna knows that a month that she has to stay is along time. She misses her sister, Kathryn. She longs for a playmate. She did not know why. She only played with her sister and sometimes her cousins in all of her five years. She wonders if a playmate would be nice to her or if a playmate would like her or not.
Flossie operates a cafeteria at an industrial site. Every morning when it was still dark, Flossie and Anna would take a taxi to the cafeteria. Flossie is angry at Anna because she has to put new gauze around her fingers. she said something about "bored with health". Anna did not understand what she meant. Flossie also grumbled about Anna not being able to help her peel potatoes because she "was so stupid as to put her hand in a fan anyway".
"I guess you'll just have to do the bread and butter plate and punch the meal tickets. If the "bored with health" comes, Anna go hide in the storage room."
The men would come everyday except Sunday. They would talk to Anna making her very frightened because she was afraid they would hurt her like Virgil did. (Child molester.)
"You are too cute to be working here, honey." a workman might say.
"Thank you darling. How old are you any way?" another strange man would ask.
Anna was always too scared to answer, so she stayed very quiet.
One day Anna fell asleep while sitting on a box during the noon rush. The bread plates ran out. Men were waiting in line to have their meal tickets punched.
Flossie had to stop the serving line and make the men wait for their plate of hot food, while she caught up with the punching of meal tickets.
She was very very angry, "Wake up you little brat. I'm going to get you for this!"
(The interaction of the gaurdian angle is edited out.)
All the men had finished their lunches.
Dirty dishes are piled high at the sink.
Anna heart beat quickens as Flossie seemed to breathe fire from her face.
Flossie grabs Anna's bandaged hand, not caring that it still hurt. She drags the her little body to the dark storage room, shoves Anna in and licks the now closed door.
Pinky was left lying behind the counter on the floor.
Flossie snaps, "You are horrid and ugly and no body will EVER love you."
Anna screams as she pounds on the locked door.
"Please , let me out. It's dark. I don't like the dark. I'm too short to reach the light cord. I need Pinky! Somebody, please help me. it is so dark."
No amount of pleading or pounding did any good.
Anna gave up.
Still heaving with sobs, she finds a gunny sack of potatoes to sit on. It was too cold to sit on the floor.
edit
She falls asleep, still sobbing.
The room is infested with mice.
tThe vermin begin to crawl all over her little body.
Anna sleeps.
It is now beginning to get dark outside. Flossie looks at the clock knowing that the men will be coming in for the evening meal, soon. Seething with hatred she reluctantly unlocks the storage room door. There is Anna asleep on the potato sack.
The little girl is covered with rodents.
Flossie runs away from the room screaming,."Mice. I hate mice!"
Anna jerks awake and begins to fling rodents off of herself with both hands.
She screams.
Anna runs from the storage room to look for Pinky. She finds her doll under a table where Flossie had kicked her.
"Pinky, I was so worried about you."
The end
I tell my anecdotes to make points that people may or may not relate to.
Child abuse is often not recognized by the abuser. They may think that that have to get a child under the kind of control they need to see.
I think that my grandmother was frustrated with me because I was not exactly as compliant as she wanted. Her expectations were not realistic of a five year old and she didn't know that.
I try to spread the word about life in extended families. I often share ideas about what is appropriate things to do instead of beating the crap out of kids just because of frustration. (Sorry for the wording.)
This is Malika Bourne the No Non-cents Nanna saying, "Make good choices."
