Keeping up with the most dysfunctional reality shows.

I admit, that I was curious and liked to watch a few reality shows on occasion.

I did discuss some of those that I watched with the granddaughters about how inappropriate the actions were.
We brainstormed about how these real live people could take a communication class to learn to work together more effectively.
But, then they wouldn't have a show if everyone was nice to each other. So sad.

Who is out there to role model good choices in behavior?
Certainly not the TV shows.
I have an idea...you, the parent, who is so busy that you can not see straight, pen in your kids on your social calendar to talk face to face. (No,not text, talk.)

If you choose to allow your kids to watch this kind of show, please watch with them.
But really, time would be better spent practicing the oboe or reading a good book instead of learning how to become a dysfunctional coach potato.
(The kids would roll their eyes at that statement.Am I right?)

Too much free time can lead to trouble. Channel surfing is not a workout.

Place blocks on your Cable or Dish.
Discuss with your children what shows your feel are appropriate or not and why or why not.
"Because I Said So, Just Isn't a Good Enough Reason."

Get your child's (yes, they are still a child) attention.
Sit down calmly and talk about why you feel some kind of TV shows are just plain inappropriate for anyone of any age to watch. ( Don't mention this kind of stuff as you are walking out the door.)

You expect them to respect and follow through with your directions/guidance even if they are home alone.
Should they be visiting a friend or relative and this kind of show comes on, they are to call you to come and get them, immediately.
You may want to make arrangement with a cab company to have an emergency ride for this and other circumstances.

I am sure to have some kids ranting that I pooped at another one of their unsupervised events. Sure, folks tell the kids the devil, Nanna put you up to the new and enforced rules because you love them so-o-o much!
