Will you be making good choices on October 31 when the little goblins come to your door to Trick or Treat? There are many things to consider when buying give away garbage to neighbor kids you do not know well.

  • Safe to eat?
  • Tamper proof?
  • Choking hazard?
  • Chocolate harvested by child slave labor?
  • Sugar or no sugar?
  • Not candy?
  • Coupon?
  • Price?

I has been years since I actively Trick or Treated the neighborhood kids. I have lived in security apartments with older folks who don't participate in handing out goodies to strange kids. Well, this year my adult son and I live in a wonderful family neighborhood that is full of happy kids. We are tlaking abut what we will do this year to be a good neighbor.

The above photo was taken several years ago at a community trick or treat event. That is a safe alternative to knocking on strangers doors. Many churches do a trunk or treat event as an alternative for those who don't do the scary or non-religious characters.

. I have to make some choices about being a good neighbor to kids who just want to have fun with the tradition.

  • I admit it, I love to play dress up with kids any time of year.
  • I am certainly not promoting what some view as a pagaen holiday.
  •  I want my neighbor and their kids to have trust me and feel safe enough to come to my door in case of an emergency any time on any day.
  • I won't be slamming my door in their faces thus alienating those little ones. who live near my home.
  • I do not like scaring little kids.
  •  I do not like passing out a ton of sugar.

This is part one of a series where I will be exploring safety issues  surrounding the American tradition of begging for candy on Halloween.

In my early days as No Non-cents Nanna, the grandkids and I made a choking hazard video for Halloween.

I have to warn you the filming is far from perfect. The 11 year old at the time filmed for the very first time. She did OK. You will see some small items that the tiny ones can choke on. I hope you enjoy and learn somethings new.

Please join me for more posts in this new series on Halloween safety.

I am Malika Bourne the No Non-cents Nanna saying, "Make good choices."
