Here is the heads up on a recalled tea kettle which has caused burns. Stop what you are doing and go check out your tea kettle, right now! I want you all to be safe.
Do you own a tea kettle that looks like this? I sure sure buy this one from Target at only $9. It is Wilton Industry product a brand I would trust.
Maybe you bought this item as a wedding present... well, I won't tell anyone the price. But, if you did, call up the bride and groom before they get burnt.
I think I am most concerned about the tweens, who are jsut learning to cook, being most vulnerable to steam burns.
From Jauary 2006 to March 2013 this kettle has seemed to be very popular priced at around $9. About 716,000 were sold in the United States and 1,400 in Canada.
Description
"This recall involves Chefmate 2-quart tea kettles sold with a black enamel finish and a solid black resin handle. The Chefmate logo is stamped on the bottom of the aluminum tea kettle. "

There seems to be 2 major issues. One is the whistle may not work due to the way the steam mistravels. Let's say you expect the keetle's whiste to rmeind you to take the hot water off the stove, but it doesn't. Then you end up burning the keelte on and stove and who knows what else you burn down because you relieved on the whistle. You know?
The other problem has been reported by 13 incidents of the steam not traveling as would be expected. Don't try it yourself to figure it out. Just return the black kettle to Target for a full refund or call Wilton. 800-638-2772 (TTY 301-595-7054)
